Bystander effect glossary

The bystander effect describes a phenomenon where people are less likely to help in an emergency situation if many others are present. They often assume that someone else will intervene. Or they interpret the lack of intervention from others as a sign that the emergency isn't so serious. Therefore, it's important to consciously take responsibility and not wait for others to act.
