About the project

What is an experienced person?

In the fall of 2021, the issue of loneliness in old age will be addressed digitally in a variety of ways throughout Hamburg, with efforts made through actions, workshops and discussions to raise awareness of the issue and to find solutions.

This is a problem for society as a whole, one that affects everyone, but one that everyone can also solve! "A diverse range of services for senior citizens has been created in Hamburg in recent years to enable them to remain active members of society in a wide variety of areas.".

To increase the visibility of existing institutions and to create new ones, the Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation is organizing an entire week.

What do we want to achieve?

Loneliness can affect anyone, at any age. But older people, in particular, face multiple burdens due to various serious factors. For example, their children are often very mobile and no longer live in the same city, and increasingly better living conditions mean we are all living longer, which means we can't all grow old together with our companions. Furthermore, not everyone can participate in society as fully as they would like, due to economic constraints.

Topics

Cooperation with FILMFEST HAMBURG

We are delighted to be cooperating with the Hamburg Film Festival again this year to raise awareness and provide information about the topic of "loneliness in old age" to a wider audience.

The very attentive and interested audience repeatedly leads to great conversations among the audience as well as with the experienced individuals themselves, who also get to enjoy the demonstrations.

This year we are once again giving away cinema tickets for the film festival; further information can be found on our Instagram and Facebook pages.

Roadshow & Senior Care Facilities

We will be on-site twice a day in 10 facilities, bringing artists from the categories of acrobatics, music, theatre, comedy, magic, ball artistry and more to the facilities on the specially built stage, who will do everything possible to ensure that the residents and their guests get a break from their everyday lives.

At the same time, we are also thinking of the local staff and will have some information on healthy eating available with our local partner, which we will put into practice on site and prepare a small snack.

Especially during the Corona pandemic, we should all take care of ourselves, and we want to do this through our contribution to the local people.

At the same time, we will also offer further exchange opportunities throughout Hamburg and the surrounding area with our pen pal project.

The foundation

The Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation was established in Hamburg in 2016. During his lifetime, the publisher Walter Blüchert stipulated that his legacy should benefit people in need of assistance. Together with his wife Karin Blüchert, he exemplified this value system and worldview of support and helping others.

The foundation's work is characterized by the continuation of these values. It offers immediate, direct help and support to individuals, but also supports institutions that in turn provide direct aid.

The foundation also implements its own projects to initiate sustainable aid. Homelessness, loneliness in old age, everyday violence, and chronic physical and mental illnesses are key areas of focus for the foundation.

Loneliness – the most painful side effect of old age

When was the last time you called your grandparents?

Loneliness! A reality many people endure and experience every day. As mobility, abilities, and independence diminish, social contacts also dwindle. The older we get, the more often we have to say goodbye to friends and acquaintances. The result is loneliness and isolation. Even before the pandemic, loneliness was a major issue for older people, and it has dramatically worsened in the last two years. Lockdown! For those who already had little contact with others! It's time to take notice. It's time to open doors.
