Power describes the ability to influence other people or societal decisions. Power is inherently neither good nor bad – it is a part of life in families, organizations, and politics. Power becomes problematic when it is used to intimidate or control others, or to deprive them of their rights and agency. In the context of violence, it is often said that violence not only causes physical harm but also serves to exert power over others or to maintain existing power structures.
