On December 11, 2017, the Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation presented the "Fairness & Courage" category at the "Hamburger of the Year 2017" awards ceremony at the Hotel Atlantic, acting as the official sponsor of the event. This commitment was particularly close to the Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation's heart, as these were the very values that Walter Blüchert considered a source of driving force and motivation throughout his life.
Providing direct support to people in need is the guiding principle of the Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation – just as Walter F. Blüchert stipulated during his lifetime. For personal happiness and the motivation to do good spring from the happiness of others. Because every person counts.
For the 19th time, the "Hamburger of the Year" award was presented at a prestigious gala held at the Hotel Atlantic Kempinski, with prizes awarded in a total of six categories. The award in the "Fairness & Courage" category is always of particular significance, as it recognizes those who demonstrate unparalleled dedication to the Hanseatic city. Traditionally, the laudatory speech is given by Hamburg's First Mayor.
Since November 2017, the Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation, based in Hamburg, has been providing direct assistance to people in crisis situations. Among the first Hamburg-based institutions to receive support are the phönikks Foundation and the Center for Children and Young People in Mourning; the foundation also supports the Right Livelihood Award Foundation (the alternative Nobel Prize) on a national level.
