Intersectionality describes how different forms of discrimination and disadvantage can interact and reinforce each other. For example, a person can be discriminated against simultaneously because of their gender, skin color, social background, and a disability. These experiences cannot always be viewed in isolation but can, in combination, create a unique form of disadvantage. The concept helps to make different lived realities visible and to better understand why people are seemingly affected differently by the same social conditions.
