The event took place from August 16th to August 26th, 2018. ZaDonk! Wheelchair Basketball World Championship 2018 The World Championships took place in Wilhelmsburg Island Park in Hamburg. From the opening match on Thursday, August 16th to the final on Sunday, August 26th, 2018, the Hanseatic city welcomed players and visitors from all over the world, sending an important message: Sport knows no boundaries! The Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation was not only present during the major event, but also provided active support to the World Championship organization in the form of an information and entertainment program during the games and on the barrier-free grounds for visitors with and without disabilities.
Because it's important to the foundation that everyone has the opportunity to actively participate in such a fantastic event. Accessibility is a much-discussed topic in a major city like Hamburg, yet the implementation of measures to facilitate access for people with disabilities is still progressing slowly. Therefore, ZaDonk! is not only an exciting sporting event showcasing the abilities of athletes with disabilities, but also an opportunity to make a statement: about the necessity of enabling everyone to access the sporting community.
