The Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation supports the Child guides – A contact point for families with seriously ill children
For the past 10 years, the Children's Navigator has been supporting families and their seriously and chronically ill children in Northern Germany. Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation supports efforts to help those affected in difficult and stressful life situations.
When inpatient treatment begins, but further or continuous care is needed, the child and their family can only rely on health insurance support and advice for a short period. Coping with illness is a significant burden for children and their families, potentially requiring a complete reorganization of their daily lives. If health insurance only covers the family's care and support needs and associated costs for a short time, those affected face additional challenges.
This is where the Children's Navigator comes in – to protect and support families and children. With a holistic perspective on the individual needs that arise when a family has a sick child, the Children's Navigator offers support: this includes assistance after hospital discharge, social-medical aftercare and home adjustment, as well as counseling and support for parents and their ability to support themselves and their family in this situation. The Children's Navigator also offers opportunities to participate in group discussions or individual care courses after surgery. While health insurance companies cover counseling for a short period, many families require longer-term support.
Intensive support and access to a counseling center for a year are essential for many affected individuals to cope with their illness. Therefore, the Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation supports the Children's Navigator program. The foundation considers the work the Children's Navigator does for families extremely valuable because it enables specific and child-friendly care within the family. Providing and promoting direct assistance is the primary goal of the Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation, aiming to offer comprehensive support to people facing challenging life situations. For the Children's Navigator, this means providing individually tailored support.
The Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation Since its founding in November 2016, the foundation has offered immediate and direct aid and support to individuals, but also supports institutions that in turn provide direct assistance. Furthermore, the foundation organizes its own events that focus on directly supporting socially disadvantaged people. Because every person counts.
