ZaDonk! A World Championship thrills Hamburg!
The Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation is pleased to support the ZaDonk! Wheelchair Basketball World Championship 2018.
Hamburg, August 24, 2018 This week the ZaDonk! Wheelchair Basketball World Championship 2018 in Wilhelmsburg Island Park The tournament takes place in Hamburg. From the opening match on Thursday, August 16th to the final on Sunday, August 26th, 2018, the Hanseatic city welcomes players and visitors from all over the world and sends an important message: Sport knows no borders! The Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation is not only present during the major event, but also provides active support to the World Cup organization.
The 2018 Wheelchair Basketball World Championship is organized as a non-profit event and made possible primarily through volunteer work. The Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation supports the event itself and, in particular, the message it represents. The foundation believes it is crucial that everyone has the opportunity to actively participate in such a fantastic event. Accessibility is a much-discussed topic in a major city like Hamburg, yet the implementation of measures to facilitate access for people with disabilities is still progressing slowly. Therefore, ZaDonk! is not only an exciting sporting event showcasing the abilities of athletes with disabilities, but also an opportunity to make a statement: about the necessity of enabling everyone to access cultural life.
The Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation supports the ZaDonk! Wheelchair Basketball World Championship 2018 in its information and entertainment program during the games and on the barrier-free grounds for visitors with and without disabilities.
The foundation also has its own information point on the grounds where all players and spectators can commemorate their participation: Every day, a 4x5 meter canvas is prepared, which everyone can decorate individually with their hand, foot, wheelchair wheel, basketball, or any other equipment, adding a colorful touch. The very next day, the result can be admired on the main hall wall, so that by the final, a collaborative work of art will be visible, a way for everyone to thank the athletes for a fantastic World Championship.
The foundation is delighted about the ZaDonk! Wheelchair Basketball World Championship 2018 in the halls and on the outdoor grounds of Wilhelmsburg Island Park, wishes all players every success and warmly welcomes all visitors!
The Karin and Walter Blüchert Memorial Foundation Since its founding in November 2016, the foundation has offered immediate and direct aid and support to individuals, but also supports institutions that in turn provide direct assistance. Furthermore, the foundation organizes its own events that focus on directly supporting socially disadvantaged people. Because every person counts.
